This painting portrays the Indian classical dance form – Odissi. Odissi is believed to be the oldest surviving classical dance form in India. The dance which was practiced as a ritual to ignite transformation in the dancer, is considered to be both graceful and sensuous. Here I have tried to portraying the beauty and grace a woman can hold while illustrating one of the most beautiful forms of Indian dance. Her hand gesture, namely the Mudra, costume and expression all inculcate the elements of elegance and charm. This painting is also part of my “Shades of a Woman” series.
